Northcross demolition halts until November
Demolition will halt on the Northcross Wal-Mart development until at least November.
A settlement between Lincoln Properties and the citizens' group Responsible Grown for Northcross preserves nearly 30 trees that the city of Austin authorized to be cut down.
Also Lincoln Properties, the owners of Northcross Mall, will not be allowed to tear down any exterior buildings in the area until after Nov. 20.
The agreement does allow Lincoln to take out three trees and put a small pond in their place.
These agreements were brought about by a lawsuit filed in back in June by Responsible Growth. The group says the city failed to enforce any of their recommendations regarding traffic, pollution, and maintaining trees in the area.
If Responsible Growth wins any of their claims, all current activity at Northcross would be forced to stop.
The group is also officially combining their lawsuit with one by the Allendale neighborhood association, who said that the city is not adequately preparing for the traffic Wal-Mart will cause.
