Art Bra event to benefit breast cancer research

By: Todd Boatwright

Todd Boatwright: All right, Esther Teller and Amy Huff, appreciate you guys coming in. You’ve got a very, as you can tell, a very unique event coming up. Tell us about the Art and Art Bra event.

Ester Teller: It’s called graphic because some of the art and the art bras are very graphic and bold and it is it’s an event for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls, who are the young breast cancer survivors program that we have. The event is really exciting. It’s coming up on April 26, Saturday night, and it’s going to be at the Design Center on South Congress and we’re featuring 109 art bras that were made by people all over the community, all over Texas and all over the country.

Todd Boatwright: And some celebrities, too.
Ester Teller: And some celebrities. And we have an art bra by Debra Harry of Blondie.

Todd Boatwright: Blondie fame right.

Ester Teller: And one by Patricia Vaughan, who’s a local, fabulous singer/songwriter and one by Natalie Vaughan, who is going to be singing at the event.

Todd Boatwright: That’s awesome.

Ester Teller: And it’s really fun.

Todd Boatwright: So you bid on a bra and the money goes back to a very good cause. And Amy, you probably know very well, you were diagnosed when you were pregnant.

Amy Huff: Yes, I was. I was four months pregnant. We found out the morning that we were going to have a girl and then we found out that afternoon that I had cancer, so the guys at the Breast Cancer Resource Center were amazing, provided me with a lot of information and even were able to hook me up with a volunteer who had done chemo and surgeries while she was pregnant many years ago so it was very helpful to kind of have that influence and have somebody who had been there, done that, had a healthy child and gone on to live this amazing wonderful life.

Todd Boatwright: So this event takes on special meaning for you.

Amy Huff: Yes, it does.

Todd Boatwright: Tell me about that.

Amy Huff: This event I think just really captures the essence of the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls. We’re young, we’re funky, we’re a little crazy, we have no modesty at all anymore.

Todd Boatwright: Modesty’s out anyway. That’s all right.

Amy Huff: Yeah, we’re done with that. You know we just really get together and have a good time and that’s what this night’s all about. It is lots of art, lots of music, wonderful food and drinks and hanging out with your friends and just letting go and having a great time.

Todd Boatwright: And tickets are still available?

Amy Huff: Tickets are still available and the event starts around 6 p.m. and there’s art, we’ve had art from all over Texas, from El Paso and Lubbock and a lot of fabulous Austin artists who’ve donated actual art works and then the art bras and then we’re going to have live, beautiful young survivor models who are going to do a runway show with the bras.

Todd Boatwright: That’s awesome. Good luck to you guys. Appreciate you coming in.

Ester Teller: Thank you so much.

Amy Huff: Thank you.
