Bra show gives breast cancer center a boost

By: Rachel Elsberry

A party, a runway show and an auction.

The Breast Cancer Resource Center's Graphic II raised more than $25,000 for Austin women in the fight against breast cancer.

A bra, designed by jewelry designer Dean Fredrick and clothing designer Ashley Heathcock, was the big cash grab of the evening -- it auctioned for $1,000.

"The main thing that's special about this bra is the pink ribbon with natural fancy pink diamonds sewn inside, Fredrick said. "The rest of it is hematite disks. It's a pretty heavy bra. It's a good two pounds or so."

The hematite represents armor and protection.

Beth Hellerstedt won the bra at auction.

"I thought it was a beautiful piece and beautiful artistry, and I really wanted to support the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls as well," Hellerstedt said.

Most of the bras at the show were designed by friends and family of survivors like Kerstin Arnold.

"Well, my sister inspired me she's a survivor as is my mom," bra designer Tania Rayborn said. "And I just wanted to show her my support because I know that what she's going through is difficult. I love her."

That's what Graphic II is all about – supporting and celebrating women who have fought the battle of their lives.
