TEA appoints monitor to 3 low-performing Dallas schools
AUSTIN -- The state's education agency is sending a monitor to three academically-troubled Dallas schools.
The Texas Education Agency assigned Judy Castleberry to ensure that the district is doing what it promised to improve Spruce and Samuell high schools and Comstock Middle School.
After four years of poor academic performance, the chronically low-performing schools might be shutdown by the state.
The Dallas Morning News reported Castleberry is a former administrator with Fort Sam Houston Independent School District and former director of a regional Education Service Center in San Antonio.
She will not have hiring nor firing authority.
She will also keep an eye on other Dallas public schools that, during the last two years, have not met state standards.
