Zilker Park Trail of Lights opens this Sunday
Last weekend, the Zilker Tree was lit and this weekend another holiday tradition will illuminate Zilker Park.
Get ready for the Trail of Lights coming this Sunday. This year, the mile long display will have more than 180,000 lights with 41 scenes, which include Santa's house and a giant yule log. Be sure to join the expected 400,000 people at Austin's family block party.
Last year, more than 300,000 people came out to check out the trail. It's open this year from Sunday Dec. 14 through Dec. 23.
The lights will be lit nightly from 7-10 pm and admission is free.
Though admission is free, on site parking will be very limited for the Trail of Lights. It will cost you $15 a car to park at Zilker Park. Parking is available beginning each night at 5:30.
Taking a Capital Metro shuttle could solve any parking headaches. It picks up and drops off at Waterloo Park, located at 14th and Trinity streets in Downtown Austin.
The first bus leaves Waterloo Park each night at 6:45. The last bus takes off from Zilker Park at 10:45 pm. The shuttle costs $3 for adults and $1 for children 5-years-old and younger.

The Trail of Lights Festival is an annual Austin holiday tradition and celebration held in Zilker Park. The festival, originally known as Yule Fest, began in 1965. Through the years, the festival continued to grow and long lasting traditions, such as a trail of lighted displays, a 5K run, the Zilker Tree lighting, an Opening Night Parade became more popular.
