New superintendent visits Eastside Memorial students
Students at Eastside Memorial High School got a chance to meet the Austin Independent School District’s new Superintendent Meria Carstarphen Friday morning.
Carstarphen continued her tour of a few AISD schools, visiting classrooms and talking to students.
"The best thing a superintendent can do, to actually get a sense of what is happening in schools, is to visit them," she said. "So far what I see is a lot of communities making changes where necessary, very engaged students who care about the outcome of their schools and want to be a part of it."
She will be the first woman and the first black superintendent in AISD’s 128-year history.
Current AISD Superintendent Pat Forgione retires in June.
