Teams of volunteers helped Art City Austinachieve its goal of being the greenest art festival in Austin.

Nonprofit teams manned water and recycling stations throughout the festival to make sure everything recyclable is recycled -- even food scraps will be composted.

Volunteers said teams even raided trash cans.

"We really wanted to make a statement with the East Side Art Alliance Recycling Challenge that we wanted to be able to have a festival downtown where we absolutely recycled everything," volunteer Tricia Traeger said.

Volunteers were vying for a $1,000 prize.
