Jurors hear voicemails left by Gobert for ex-girlfriend

By: Harlan Schmidt

"Don't ever come back, ever..." said the voice of Milton Dwayne Gobert in a recording that was played for jurors Tuesday.

During the second day of testimony in Gobert's capital murder trial, the jury heard voice mails left by Gobert on his ex-girlfriend's phone. Jurors read along with transcripts of the voice mails, many of which were angry, accusatory, and full of expletives.

Gobert is accused of stabbing thirty-year-old Mel Cotton to death in 2003. The voicemails were recorded around the time of the murder and offered jurors a glimpse into the relationship between Gobert and his ex-girlfriend Christina Pocharasang.

Cotton is mentioned in the recordings, and helped Pocharasang move out of Golbert's apartment when she ended their relationship.

The jury also heard testimony from the doctor who treated Cotton's son, Demetrious Cotton, who was five-years-old at the time of the crime. He suffered four stab wounds to his chest in the attack.

Forensic evidence was submitted as well as details of the duct tape found at the scene of the murder.

Wednesday, more testimony is expected from forensics analysts. Cotton's son is also expected to take the stand at some point.
