Jury hears Gobert's pervious assault record
On the first day of the punishment phase of Milton Gobert's capital murder trial, jurors heard testimony to determine Gobert's sentence.
Gobert was convicted Tuesday of capital murder for killing 30 year old Mel Cotton in 2003.
A former cell mate of Gobert's testified that he was assaulted by
Gobert, and Gobert's ex-girlfriend told jurors of multiple attacks that she suffered through when they were together.
"He punched me in my face and then he grabbed me around my whole body where I couldn't actually move. I had my phone but he grabbed my phone and crushed it. He said you'll never get to call nobody on here, your gone tonight I'm killing you," Christina Pocharasang said.
The testimony is to prove Gobert is a future threat to society in
order to seek the death penalty.
Gobert's attorneys are expected to call witnesses from his
family to try and show that there may be some mitigating factors that would warrant sparing his life.
