Art Alliance Austin is one of the many organizations helping support the visual arts in Austin. Through a series of event productions, they raise money to commission local artists and public art projects. They are also one of the main financial backers for the Austin Museum of Art.

Throughout the year, the non-profit organization holds events to showcase art around the city. Events like the East Austin Studio Tour and Art Night Austin build momentum to late April, when Art City Austin temporarily transforms downtown.

"It's a temporary art utopia that pops up in the Second Street District," Executive Director of Art Alliance Austin Meredith Powell said.

All of the events are created through the collaboration of local artists, businesses, organizations, the city and volunteers.

"Collaboration is in our fabric," Powell said. "Together as a creative community we're stronger, and together through collaboration and strategic partnerships we can do more for our city creatively."

Everyone is invited to be part of the celebration, regardless of artistic ability.

"One of the key themes of Art City this year is ‘Together we make,’ and that means art is more than just a spectator sport," Lacy LaBorde, with the Downtown Austin Alliance, said. "Art Alliance and Art City really want people to get involved in the arts. Each of us, whether we can draw a straight line or not, can play a big role in the arts."
