Law enforcement, Child Protective Services come together

By: News 8 Austin Staff

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at a new child abuse investigation facility marked a landmark partnership between local agencies Wednesday.

For the first time, the Center for Child Protection and the Child Protection Team will operate out of the same location.

Investigative teams from local law enforcement agencies and Child Protective Services will also join forces, moving in next door.

"What this is going to do for us back here is really leverage this facility, leverage all the partnerships, and the collaboration will make us be a lot more effective," Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said.

For the children suffering from abuse, the more emphasis on quality service the better.

"If it wasn't for the people I had around me when I was younger, I would not be standing here today. It is the key to all this is your huddle, are your supporters,” child abuse survivor Brooke Adair said.

The new East Austin facility will focus on child abuse cases in Travis County.
