With music and dance, members of the Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition wanted to send a message to Texas Lawmakers at the State Capitol Saturday afternoon.

The rally was part of the National Day of Action Against Senate Bill 1070 in Arizona.

Groups from as far away as Dallas, Houston and the Rio Grande Valley traveled to Austin to participate in the protest.

Cesar Espinosa traveled from Houston to take part in the event.

"This is a preamble to the struggle to which we are going to uphold to stop laws like SB 1070 anywhere in America, especially in Texas," he said.

Protesters said immigration is a federal issue and individual states shouldn't pass unique laws as a temporary fix.

Greg Holloway is with the Austin Tea Party Patriots. He believes that securing the border needs to be the first step before laws can be reformed to allow people to come to America legally.

"We've got so many people that could add so much good to this country and we want to continue to encourage that and discourage the people that want to come here illegally," Holloway said.

With this fall's congressional election and next year's legislative session, this group said they'll keep the pressure on state and federal leaders.
