Wednesday, registered members from the Boys and Girls Club participated in team building drills with Austin police officers from the Police Activities League.
The program aims to give at-risk kids a safe place hang out and keep them off the streets.
"It helps them see us in a different light. We want young people to understand that we are not just enforcers of the law, but we are also concerned about their health, their safety, about their education and also we are interested in how they want to prosper in sports," Eric Oakmon, with the Austin Police Department, said.
The program is part of a two-day event held for kids elementary through high school.
