APD: Officer who hit motorcyclist distracted by computer

By: News 8 Austin Staff

The Austin Police Department released documents concerning a motorcyclist struck by a police officer driving his patrol car.

In May, investigators said APD Officer Damon Dunn drove through a stop sign at the corner of Magazine Street and Lamplight Village and hit 74-year-old Louis Olivier.

According to police documents, Dunn said he was looking at the mobile data computer in his car at the time, and thought he was idling.

The documents also state that Dunn was going about 10 miles per hour, and did not hit his brakes until after impact with the motorcycle.

Officer Dunn returned to full duty a few days following the wreck.

Olivier was left in critical condition.
