In less than two weeks, the popular Cedar Park Farmers Market might have to change its name.

After running into a series of conflicts with 1890 Ranch, the shopping center it currently calls home every Saturday, Cedar Park Farms to Market organizers chose to relocate to the Lakeline Mall. The mall has a Cedar Park zip code, but is technically in north Austin.

The market will continue running out of 1890 Ranch's parking lot Saturday, July 10 before planning a move to the parking lot of the Lakeline Mall the following week.

"I am sad about it leaving Cedar Park, and I know that the people in Cedar Park have a real ownership of the market and I know they're real disappointed in that too," organizer Carla Jenkins said.

While at 1890 Ranch, vendors saw about 4,000 customers each Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The market was limited to selling products that didn't directly compete with those sold by retailers located within 1890 Ranch.

"There's not a lot of parking there anyway, and when we came in with the market and had three or four thousand people there, it really did impact the retailer's parking," Jenkins said.

For some of the vendors, such as 6J Ranch, Cedar Park Farms to Market is a big part of their business. That's why Rosalie Jechow plans to stay with the weekly event, even though she lives in Thrall and 6J Ranch runs business 14 miles north of there.

"The first week, we sold out everything, except we had one pound of bacon and one pound of sausage left," Jechow said. "It was lots of people. And we did really good. I think we were a little surprised."

Jenkins said the City of Cedar Park was very supportive in trying to find another location suitable for the farmers market. The parking lot of the Cedar Park Center was one option, but didn't work because of the events held there on Saturdays.

"Certainly, if anything opens up in Cedar Park that would be able to host us in the future, we'll look at it," Jenkins said.
