Utility line workers help get lights back on during severe weather, and officials with Austin Energy say there's an urgent need for more in Central Texas.
Austin Community College will host the Utility Line Worker Expo Wednesday at 10 a.m. at its Riverside Campus to help fill the need.
Since the inception of the job, technology has helped it become more safe and efficient.
“The old school way (we operate) is climbing the poles and working everything off the wood. Bucket trucks help speed us up and make us more efficient,” Austin Energy spokesperson Jeff Bradford said.
The public is invited to see live demos and learn about program requirements Wednesday at ACC or come out to the Lineman’s Rodeo Saturday in Seguin.
