The Austin Police Department is investigating whether a man found dead near Webb Middle School was involved in a bank robbery earlier Saturday.
Just before 11:30 a.m., APD received a call about a robbery at a Wells Fargo near Spicewood Springs Road and Mesa Drive.
Police said a man with a weapon entered the bank and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
APD said officers then spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the getaway car and pursued it for a short time. Officers ended the pursuit when they lost sight of the car. Then, police found the vehicle crashed near Interstate-35 and Blackson Avenue.
With the help of residents who saw a man run from the car, APD set up a perimeter and began a search.
About a block away from the crash site, they found a man dead near Webb Middle School.
Both homicide and robbery detectives are working together to see if the man found dead is the same person who robbed the bank.
