“We sat in a chair yesterday. It was the first time it ever got sat in. It’s pretty cool,” student Zack Joiner said.
The state-of-the-art facility is the second high school in Bastrop and is equipped with Apple technology. Some students arrive an hour early just to see all of the advanced features.
The curriculum puts an emphasis on projects, and that’s something students say is an essential skill.
“I like the project-based learning. I don’t really like the textbook learning where you get out a piece of paper and read a billion chapters,” Joiner said. “I definitely like where there are more projects. You actually get to do stuff instead of just reading out of a book.”
The money used to fund the new school came from a 2007 bond measure.
In all, the school has 515 students and caters only to freshmen and sophomores.
Cedar Creek’s mascot is the Eagle.
