31 DWI arrests made Saturday night in Austin
Between the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., Austin police made 31 DWI arrests.
It was all part of a statewide campaign by the Texas Department of Transportation to crack down on drunk driving. The initiative name delivers a straight forward message: Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.
Eleven people refused to give a sample of their breath or blood. A judge signed a search warrant for all to have their blood drawn.
One person voluntarily had their blood drawn.
Eighteen voluntarily provided breath samples.
There was one mandatory blood draw case since that person had a prior DWI conviction.
Police say the test results will not be available for a couple of weeks.
TxDot estimates the total fines for a DWI can add up to more than $17,000.
The campaign lasts through Monday.
