Hays County is in a unique position. City officials have an unexpected $4 million to spend on parks.

They are seeking the public’s input on how to spend the money. Hays County Commissioners are calling for proposals for active, passive or recreational park projects. They are also considering creating open spaces for endangered species.

The extra money comes from a $30 million bond voters approved in 2007. Only $600,000 of that amount remained until last month when the county bought a lot of land for $3.4 million under budget.
