The crash happened around 2:30pm at Highway 71 and Thornberry, near Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

According to Austin police, an SUV tried to turn north onto Thornberry and was hit by a car. Witnesses say the car ran a red light.

72-year-old Phillip Ontivero, who was riding in the car, died at the hospital. The driver of the car, a 70-year-old woman, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Passengers inside the SUV were not injured.
