Austin officials warn of 2 potential wastewater spills
The City of Austin says people should stay out of Bull Creek near Spicewood Springs Road and Scotland Wells Drive, because of a wastewater leak.
Officials say lightning hit a lift station in the area, causing it to lose power. Lift stations house pumps that move wastewater uphill to mains that take it to Austin's wastewater treatment plants.
More than 100,000 gallons of wastewater have flowed into the creek.
The intersection of Anderson Mill Road and West Parmer Lane should also be avoided, as overflow from Lake Creek has flooded another lift station in the area. Officials think 100,000 gallons of wastewater may have entered the water in that area as well.
Repair crews are at both locations but neither problem has been fixed.
