The Texas Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday regarding paperless electronic voting machines.
The state’s highest court will decide if a suit filed by some Travis County voters, the NAACP and the Texas Civil Rights Project has legal grounds to sue the State of Texas.
The groups want a paper trail left behind at the voting booth.
If so, a lawsuit filed in 2006 could be heard by a Travis County District Judge. The suit asks for all electronic voting machines to also have a paper trail. Current machines in Travis County have no alternate paper documentation.
One Travis County voter said she does not trust the reliability of electronic voting machines.
"We don't have any confidence that these machines are secure and auditable," Sonia Santana said. "And we'd heard of several instances throughout the United States were causing problems in terms of people feeling confident in the results of the election."
It will be several months before the Supreme Court renders a decision.
