Car2go rolled onto Austin’s streets one year ago Wednesday. Group officials celebrated the feat by announcing more plans for expansion.

CEO Nicholas Cole said, “300,000 miles driven, 100,000 rentals and close to 15,000 registered members clearly shows the success of the program and how the Austin community has adopted this unique concept since its launch a year ago.”

According to Cole, car2go plans to add 150 vehicles to the fleet and introduce a new production model called the “car2goedition.”

About 80 percent of the vehicles will feature a special 100-Watt solar roof to help charge the car's battery and new hardware to make the rental process easier.

“The new technology platform will allow for continuous development of features that will further enhance our members’ experience,” Cole said.

The company also plans to expand throughout North America in 2011.
