Texas lawmakers react to Rep. Giffords' shooting

The shooting of Ariz. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has many people around the State Capitol talking.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn released a public statement Saturday afternoon, saying:
“My prayers go out to Rep. Giffords, her family, staff and all those affected by this horrific tragedy. I hope those responsible for this senseless crime will be brought to justice as swiftly as possible.”
In a statement released to the press, Rep. Michael McCaul said Giffords is a friend and that "violence such as this cannot and will not be tolerated by the American people." McCaul worked with Giffords on legislation involving NASA and solar energy.
Rep. Lloyd Doggett also released a statement, saying:

"Gaby is a talented and energetic friend, who has so much more to contribute to our country. She and her staff were conducting the same type of neighborhood office hours that I hold regularly in Central Texas. Only hours ago I was talking with her about our future; now she, her family and the other victims are in my prayers."
Giffords was critical condition Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in a shooting spree that sent up to 18 others to Tucson hospitals Saturday.
In March, the glass front door to her congressional office was smashed after a round of health care voting.
