A crowd of well-wishers gathered in Tucson, Ariz., Friday to send off Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords to the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

Giffords arrives in Texas
The U.S. representative will continue treatment for a life-threatening bullet wound to her head. Giffords was shot Jan. 8 when police say 22-year-old Jared Loughner opened fire while the congresswoman was attending a meet-and-greet event with constituents.

Giffords arrived at the Level 1 Trauma Center of Memorial Hermann Hospital at the Texas Medical Center in Downtown Houston around 1:30 p.m. Once her condition approves, doctors say she will be moved to The Institute or Rehabilitation and Research.

Dr. Dong Kim, a neurosurgeon at the medical facility, said Giffords is not “quite ready for rehabilitation yet.” Declining to elaborate further, Dr. Kim cited ongoing medical concerns.

Sources on the ground believe that Giffords’ husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, and her mother Gloria are traveling by car from the Houston airport to TMC.

A press conference will take place at 3:30 p.m. regarding Giffords’ current physical condition. Stay tuned to YNN and follow us on Twitter for the latest updates.
