President Barack Obama delivered campaign confidence and hopes for America's financial future during a speech to his supporters at Moody Theater in Downtown Austin Tuesday evening.

The president received a warm welcome from a crowd of about 1,000 at the ACL studios. Country singer Robert Earl Keen opened the event.

Mr. Obama spoke about the accomplishments of his administration over the past two-and-a-half years, like repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell, passing health care reform and growing jobs.

"That wasn't an ending, that was a beginning,” President Obama said. “It was a beginning of what we knew was going to be a steep climb."

A steep climb the president says was coupled with the worst recession since the Great Depression. He said the economy is now finally growing again, after it was shrinking by about 6 percent.

The president said down the line he envisions a future America where everyone can be financially secure.

"It's one where America is more prosperous than ever before and all Americans are sharing in that prosperity,” President Obama said. “That's the summit we want to reach, and it's going to take more than a couple of years to get there. In fact, it's going to take more than one term to get there."

Sources say Obama's campaign is expected to raise about $2 million during his visit. Tickets to the event at Moody Theater cost $1,000, but some area students were able to snag a seat for $44.

Students like Eric Eyges, who was happy to have the opportunity to see an American president in action.

"Just to see, when you follow somebody that closely, and you finally get to see what they're like and put an image or a face on this image you've created in your head of the person," he said.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Boyd Richie said the president’s visit helped put a face to his democratic efforts made here in Texas.

"The best bang for your buck is here in Texas,” he said. “We're hungry for a candidate that will come here and campaign on the issues, tell it like it is put your agenda out there and let us work for you.”

Prior to his stop in Central Texas, the president talked immigration reform in El Paso.

After his speech to contributors at Moody Theater, the commander-in-chief headed to a private function in Westlake. Tickets for that event cost upwards of $35,000 a plate.
