The 23-year-old administrative aide who police say struck and killed a woman in West Austin Friday morning is out on a $35,000 bond.

According to officers, Gabrielle Jane Nestande was taken into custody and charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third degree felony. She was released from the Travis County Jail late Friday night.

Nestande was an administrative aide to Republican Rep. Wayne Christian, a member of the Texas House of Representatives.

APD received a call at 5:15 a.m. Friday from a woman who spotted the body of a woman in her driveway in the 1600 block of Exposition Boulevard. The victim was later identified as 30-year-old Courtney Paige Griffin. Officers are still trying to determine the exact time of the crash.

An anonymous tip later in the morning led officers to a black BMW not too far from the scene

"There was very little physical evidence on the scene leading us to a suspect vehicle, and about three hours later at approximately at 9 o’ clock in the morning we received an anonymous tip from a 911 call indicating the suspect vehicle was at an address on Windsor," Detective Michael McCarter said.

YNN also spoke to Nestande’s attorney who said she is emotionally bothered by the chain of events.

"She is distraught of course and concerned about the situation. I'm not at liberty to talk about it at all. All I can tell you is this is a tragic accident," attorney Perry Minton said.

In a statement issued Friday afternoon, Rep. Christian's Chief of Staff Jon McClellan said, "Rep. Christian and his office are cooperating fully with authorities as needed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the parties involved."

Nestande previously worked as an unpaid intern on Gov. Perry’s 2010 re-election campaign.
