Renovations will start this fall at the
ARCH.
Austin city officials will spend $685,000 on repairs that include new showers, flooring and water fountains at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless.
Mitchell Gibbs with the nonprofit Front Steps said the ARCH has needed the work.
"We see about 315 or up to 400 showers a day going on up here, so we're seeing quite a volume of usage, and it's just kind of worn out our shower facility," he said.
This is the first major renovation for the ARCH since the shelter opened in 2004.
The money is coming from the city's sustainability fund. The project should be finished next year.
