The Austin Independent School District’s $700 million budget is a done deal.
Monday, Austin school board members voted the 2011-2012 budget into action without closing any schools.
Earlier this year, over 1,100 district employees were given a pink slip after the Texas legislature was forced to make $4 billion in cuts statewide.
“Anytime you're going to reduce our budget by multi-million dollars, it's going to affect your staffing. That is this most challenging area, our classroom, certainly trying to keep our classrooms salient," Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley-Abram said.
Superintendent Meria Carstarphen said she's ready to put the tough decision in the past.
"It's great closure,” she said “I mean it’s time for us to move past the legislative session and to get on with the start of the school year and planning for the next."
AISD was able to close the gap on nearly $100 million budget shortfall from earlier this year.
