300,000 gallons of wastewater spills into Colorado River

Untreated wastewater has made its way into the Colorado River.
Officials with Austin Water Utility are asking people to avoid getting in or near the Colorado River near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
AWU says about 300,000 gallons of untreated wastewater is in the river. An accidental chlorine leak earlier in the day Tuesday required the South Austin Regional Water Treatment Plant to be shut down temporarily.
Crews are working to get the plant repaired.
AWU is asking residents in Southeastern Travis County to boil water from private wells. Also, residents living south of the river and in downtown are asked to reduce water use because it will help the city fix the problem more quickly.
