Update 5:00 p.m.The Steiner Ranch fire is now 45 percent contained, according to fire officials.

As for the cause of the blaze, power lines are likely to blame. Fire investigators believe they have pinpointed the origin to a spot beneath overhead power lines. They would like anyone with any information to call 512-854-4621.

Crews will continue to work the fire until it is completely under control which could take several more days. Containing this fire will be "slow and tedious."

Residents were allowed to return home Tuesday at noon and asked to remain "fire-wise."

Power has been returned to about 90 percent of homes. Austin Energy crews will continue working to restore power to the rest of the subdivision.

Evacuees are asked to call 512-974-6199 for information regarding re-entry.

Earlier -The cause of the the mega blaze in Steiner Ranch is still under investigation. Preliminary reports said the fire was caused by downed power lines which sparked after rubbing together in the recent windy conditions, but fire officials have said that is not the case.

Evacuees will be let back into their homes noon Tuesday.

Officials say the blaze is now 45 percent contained with 24 homes destroyed and 30 damaged. It has spread to 125 acres.

There are reports of minor injuries to five firefighters. Bulldozers and helicopters have been brought in from the Texas Forest Service, but officials say the big equipment they really need may never arrive.

"The Texas Forest Service is helping a lot out in Bastrop County, so we haven't had the larger planes come in with aerial drops, and I don't know if they are actually going to be able to come in," Jim Baker with the Austin Fire Department said.

Power is restored to all circuits serving the Steiner Ranch area. Officials with Austin Energy say they will continue restoring power to homes not damaged by the fire.

The area is still closed off to residents. Vandegrift and Rouse High School are two designated shelters.

Displaced families can go to AustinHSEM.com for information about the fire or call (512) 974-6199.
