An appeals court declared 56-year-old Michael Morton an innocent man Wednesday.

Morton's attorneys and District Attorney John Bradley presented an agreement to the court last week that recommended the reversal of his murder conviction, which can now be vacated by the judge.

The action also allows Morton to seek compensation from the State of Texas for the time he spent in jail if he so chooses.

Morton was released last week after new DNA evidence released him from his wife's murder.

He spent almost 25 years in prison.
