An artist in Salado is giving new meaning to chicken scratch. He’s creating masterpieces with the help of some feathered friends.

Artist Lonnie Edwards’ the “Claw Can Draw” collection is inspired by his chickens and the Impressionist theory.

“Sometimes I think the chickens are actually conscious of what’s happening. Sometimes the dip their beak right in the paint, act like they’re smearing the paint around,” he said. “I have a cage that I put four or five canvases in, and then I squirt the paint on the canvas similar to the way Jackson Pollack did it.

Supporter Cindy Cashion said it’s inspiring.

“I had no ideas chicken could be so talented and so amazing with a bottle of paint,” she said. “I’ve learned to look at chickens in a new way, but I’ve also learned to look at how paint goes together on a canvas, maybe that I don’t have to have everything in the right place.”
