Kids displayed their best turkey calls Tuesday in hopes of attracting the attention of a special visitor.
Tom, a live turkey, greeted the eager students at Stepping Stone School in North Austin. His visit marks the kick off to a well-known race, the Thundercloud Sub's Turkey Trot and Stepping Stone School Kid's K.
"It's always great to see them kind of act like turkeys. It's easier for some kids than others," Thundercloud Subs Co-Owner Mike Haggerty said. "Just to come out there and have fun, and just be part of the whole thing."
Tom didn't call back to the kids, but everyone still had a great time. The Turkey Trot will happen Thanksgiving morning.
Proceeds from the event benefit Caritas of Austin.
