Austin police are asking for the public's help to connect a suspect to a 23-year-old murder case.

On Jan. 13, 1988, Debra Baker was found beaten to death in her home near Brentwood Park in North Austin.

Recently, police started investigating whether 57-year-old Mark Alan Norwood, a man charged in a similar murder, was also responsible for Baker's death.

Tuesday, Austin police held a press conference asking for the public's help to bring new evidence to light.

Investigators are asking anyone who knew Norwood or worked with him around January of 1988 to contact police.

APD is looking to tie items missing from the Baker home to Norwood.

"We know that there were items stolen from Debra's home following her murder, so that’s the reason why anyone that may have known Norwood during this time period or may have received or bought property from him or saw him with property where you were suspicious about how he inquired it to call that number,” APD Cmdr. Julie O’Brian said.

Norwood is charged with the murder of Christine Morton. She was found beaten to death in her Georgetown home in 1986. Morton's husband was originally convicted of that murder, but was freed in October after DNA testing connected Norwood to the crime.
