With Christmas right around the corner, the time for participating households to decorate is here.

Keeping one holiday tradition alive is the Austin-based Tinplate Trackers, a local model train club. Throughout the holiday season, the group will have model trains set up in Downtown Austin to give visitors the chance to play conductor.

Model trains have a permanent role in the way Don Karschnik and his son celebrates the holidays.

"My dad had a train and I had a train growing up. Now that we've left the house, he got another one." Karschnik said. “My son just loves building train tracks and watching them go around.”

The Tinplate Trackers are showing the trains at 117 Lavaca Street every weekend until January 14th.
