Nearly 100 leaders and experts from Fort Hood sat ready in front of a computer Thursday night.

As part of Fort Hood's first multimedia town hall meeting, they waited until 5 p.m. to answer questions from the public. The use of multimedia platforms, including Facebook, television and radio for this type of event marked a first for the Army.

"We are truly breaking some new ground in terms of TV and Facebook," Fort Hood Commander Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell said as he addressed the group.

Soldiers, families and community members could either post their questions on Fort Hood's Facebook page or call their questions in.

Answers to selected questions were then broadcast over television and Fort Hood radio. Other questions answered through Facebook posts.

"We're not afraid of change. We're not afraid of hard questions. We're not afraid to tackle tough challenges," Campbell said.

While the floor was open to any concern or question, Campbell said there were specific issues he wanted to address.

"There's a lot of folks who question the Army's ability to take care of behavioral health challenges, Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and we need to talk about that," he said.

Campbell also fielded questions about the condition of post housing, concerns over traffic and parking and safety on post.

The meeting did not go completely without a hitch. They ran into issues with the video feed, which affected both the broadcast and live stream online for nearly half of the hour-long event.

"Overall the TV and Facebook town hall was a success," Fort Hood Public Affairs Officer Chris Haug said. "We had more than 430 posts. Our subject matter experts were able to answer more than 135 of those questions."

Officials said the level of participation during this town hall meeting is the greatest they have seen.

"We will be better for doing this, and we'll do it again," Campbell said.

Campbell said they hope to hold similar events at least every year.
