Taking a winter dip in Austin is a little harder than usual this season.

Both Barton Springs and Deep Eddy pools, favorite swimming spots in town, are closed right now.

Wednesday’s torrential rainfall flooded Barton Creek in South Austin with nine feet of water, causing iconic Barton Springs Pool to close.

"We had some flooding go through the pool," Tom Nelson with Austin Parks and Recreation Department said. “Crews are over there right now getting that facility cleaned up."

Before the storm, Barton Springs was the place-to-be for winter swimming. Swimmers were diverted there after Deep Eddy Pool, Texas’ oldest swimming pool, closed for renovations in December.

"Deep Eddy is close to 100 years old and so over those years it's seen its share of love. It's time for a renovation,” Nelson said. “We'll be replacing the deck, piping, the bottom of the pool. The major thing to remember is that the look and the feel of this pool will remain consistent."

Austinite Abby Stancik welcomes the pool's $2 million facelift.

"I'm glad they're trying to keep up with them and I hope the renovations at Deep
Eddy, you know, stay true to its character,” she said.

The work on Deep Eddy is expected to be finished in April. There’s no word on when Barton Springs will reopen.
