In a press release, Abbott says the jury charged Norwood with murder for "intentionally causing the death of Round Rock resident Christine Morton on Aug. 13, 1986". If convicted, Norwood could face life in prison without parole, or the death penalty.
Morton's husband, Michael Morton, was convicted of her murder. He served 24 years in prison before new DNA testing of old evidence cleared him and led investigators to Norwood. He was released last October and later exonerated.
The Attorney General's office is handling Norwood's prosecution because of lingering questions over whether the Williamson County District Attorney's office handled Michael Morton's case appropriately.
