Former police officer acquitted in domestic violence case
A former Austin Police officer has been found not guilty of two criminal charges.
Leonardo Quintana was fired from the Austin Police Department in October 2010 because he failed report his involvement in a reported domestic violence incident a year earlier. Wednesday, a jury acquitted Quintana on a criminal trespass charge and an assault with bodily injury charge that stemmed from that incident.
That firing was Qintana's second. He was first fired over a DWI arrest, then reinstated.
The former officer said that January 2010 DWI arrest stemmed from negative attention he received from his involvement in the controversial shooting of Nathaniel Sanders in May of 2009.
