Bee Cave Bob says away with the winter coats and Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction because spring is coming early.

In Texas, we ditch the groundhog for a more, southwestern-friendly animal. Bee Cave Bob, the armadillo, made his annual appearance to predict an early spring. The Texas tradition was started by a group of men who came together to form the Benevolent Knights of the Raccoon.

Terry Boothe is one of the group’s founding members. He said that he “counseled with Bee Cave Bob” and the armadillo agreed to perform the ceremony.

"We have very little or no respect for Phil. We don't have groundhogs out here. Why in the world would we listen to a groundhog's prediction?" Boothe said. "I would not dare to make a prediction. He’s the expert. We're going to rely on "Bee Cave Bob."

And for others, there's just no messing around with the armadillo.

"You know we started with a prehistoric animal. That armadillo should know more than that groundhog right? I mean logical sense right?" Boss Coon Mike Burke said. "So far his predictions have been virtually 100 percent right."

In the three years Bee Cave Bob has been forecasting, he's done so with an accuracy of 98.6 percent.

Bob also made his predictions for this year’s political races. To signal his pick for president, Bob went the left.

The results were announced by the Lone Star Weatherological Society.

Those who attended “The West Pole" event in Bee Cave were served a chuck wagon chow and enjoyed live performances.
