Boy Scouts from across Texas left their compasses at home and hit the city streets in Downtown Austin Saturday.
Nearly 5,000 scouts took the trip to the State Capitol for the 63rd annual Boy Scout Parade.
According to the Boy Scouts of America Capitol Area Council website, scout delegates must report to a state official about their regional council’s accomplishments from the past year.
Some older scouts reflected on their years in the program.
“I've had the ability to get into leadership responsibilities, that are difficult at first but it’s really fulfilling because you learn how to plan big events and you can carry that through to the rest of your life. So it's been an amazing and empowering experience,” Venturer Zach Tuten said.
This year, the Scouts are trying to help the Capital Area Food Bank with donations. They set up a donation area along the parade route.
"The food is coming in, it's piling up, and this will all go towards the total goal this year we're trying to raise 1 million meals,” CAFB official John Turner said.
If you'd like to pitch in, you can drop off non-perishable food items at the Capital Area Food Bank at 8201 South Congress Ave. For more information, go to AustinFoodBank.org.
