Austin's Public Safety Commission wants to launch an independent investigation into the city's most notorious unsolved murders.

Police have yet to catch the criminals behind the Yogurt Shop murders of 1991.

Recently, the Austin Police Department reopened its investigation into the cold case after two men originally sent to prison for the crime were cleared of wrongdoing and set free.

Commissioners want outside reviewers to take a look at the evidence and overall investigation, then present their findings to the commission.

Public Safety Commissioners were hoping for a briefing on the case Monday night, but it was tabled because the case remains under investigation by APD.
