A trial date has been set for the former legislative aide accused in a deadly hit-and-run last spring.

The victim’s family said 24-year-old Gabrielle Nestande will likely be tried this summer, but the exact date won't be announced until Monday.

Nestande faces a charge of failure to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors say she fled the scene after striking 30-year-old Courtney Griffin with her car. Griffin died on the side of the road.

At Friday’s hearing, Nestande was silent to both the judge and the media, and she was seen leaving the courtroom in tears.

"I could care less if she's crying or not," Bart Griffin, Courtney's father, said. "If this is hard for her, so be it. She killed my daughter."

If convicted, Nestande faces up to five years in prison.
