Austin's boardwalk is one step closer to reality. Monday night, the Waterfront Planning Advisory Board recommended the planning commission adopt the 2009 voter-approved site plan.

The planning commission’s decision would give the contractor the green light to build the 7,000-foot connection of the Roy and Ann Butler Hike and Bike Trail.

Joggers and cyclists currently use the sidewalk along Riverside Drive, between Congress Avenue and Lakeshore Park Boulevard. The project would connect the trail around the entire lake.

The commission will likely make their decision within the next month.
