Turullos-Gonzalez was booked, then released on $30,000 bail.

Ronald Phillips with the Austin Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Unit says they were able to identify Turullos-Gonzalez as the suspect through statements and evidence, particularly the truck left at the scene of the crime that was registered to a family member.

Turullos-Gonzalez has not yet given a statement. Phillips urges that no matter what, people involved in vehicular accidents should stay at the scene.

“Stay there,” he said. “Face the consequences of your actions.”

Earlier --Austin police are looking for 20-year-old Roman Jesus Turullos-Gonzalez in connection with the deadly hit-and-run over the weekend that killed Mark Gobble.

Officers say Turullos-Gonzalez was driving his silver Toyota pickup truck at 6:38 a.m. Sunday in the westbound lane of West Slaughter Lane when he lost control and the truck left the roadway and hit Gobble, who was jogging on the sidewalk.

Turullos-Gonzalez then abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene. Gobble was transported to Brackenridge Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police ask if anyone sees Turullos-Gonzalez, or has information on his whereabouts, to contact police immediately. He has been charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony.

Gobble’s death is Austin’s 36th traffic fatality of the year. Last year at this time there were 24 traffic fatalities.
