A former secretary of state made a stop in Central Texas Friday.

Retired four-star general Colin Powell was at Fort Hood to sign copies of his new memoir titled, “It Worked for Me.”

A couple hundred people lined up for a chance to come face-to-face with the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Those at the front of the line waited several hours to make sure they didn't miss out.

Many fans in this military community say his life and leadership serve as an inspiration.

"Someone that has walked in the same shoes, the same path that you have had and seeing how he dealt with those experiences," Sfc. David Dixon said.

Fort Hood was one of 13 stops Powell is making as part of his book tour.

He will be headed to Chicago next.
