With fresh memories of the extreme drought and scorching heat of last year, Central Texas ushered in the official start of summer on Wednesday.

Heading into summer last year, Central Texas had already seen its share of summer heat.

"This year we only had one 100 degree day,” YNN Meteorologist Rich Segal said. “Last year up until June 20, we already had 16 on our way to the record that we set, which was about 90."

On Wednesday, however, temperatures were hardly a reminder of last year’s brutally hot season.

"We don't anticipate 90 days of 100 degree heat this summer, but we know we will have some," Segal said.

Much of Central Texas is expected to see triple digit temperatures starting this weekend, and into next week.
