Thousands of Texas peace officers are in town this week for some fun and competition.

The Texas Police Games pit officer against officer in a variety of competitions, including powerlifting, football, volleyball and many others.

"I play softball and volleyball and you see the same people year after year. It's great for morale," Barry Thornton with the Texas Police Athletic Federation said.

By nature, law enforcement is a stressful occupation, but through friendly competition like the Texas Police Games, these officers can blow off a little steam while forging stronger relationships with their badged brethren.

Art Garcia brought the family up from the Valley to watch his two sons play for the Border Patrol.

"They look forward to doing this every year," the proud father said.

The Police Games will continue through this weekend at several locations around Austin. Events are open to the public at no charge. For more information, visit at TexasPoliceGames.org
